Jeremy Vaught set his sights on working on seesmic, sent in a resume, and started blogging about the company. Around a week later, he got an offer to come join Seesmic. It’s an interesting strategy, although less applicable if your desired job isn’t “blogger,” but it does give you a sense of how you could think outside the box on the job search.

Hi Geoffrey,
In that case I have a second example for you. Way back in the day I started a podcast about Second Life called SecondLifePodcast.com with the idea in mind to make money in a virtual world. Six episodes in, I was able to use my connections I gained from the podcast to get a Project Manager job with the largest Virtual World developer, not a podcaster job.
So it works in more ways that one. Definitely thin outside of the box.
Thanks for posting about my story though!
